SDC supports KAZA Task Force to fine tune Treaty
A Task Force comprising legal and technical personnel from each KAZA partner country and the SADC Secretariat met in Windhoek, Namibia, in September 2009 to refine the KAZA draft Treaty.
This was a critical workshop, sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), which allowed officials to reach a consensus on a draft.
The countries are now following their country specific procedures to attain internal consent on the treaty that will ultimately result in the signing of the Treaty by the KAZA Heads of State. The partner countries are hopeful that the Treaty formally establishing the KAZA TFCA will be signed by August 2010. This document will essentially be a commitment by the partner countries to the founding principles of the initiative and to a fundamental policy and strategic framework which will be adhered to in the implementation of regional and national development and conservation plans.
