Meet Darren Potgieter: KAZA Aerial Survey Coordinator

Darren Potgieter was born in Nelspruit, South Africa just south of Kruger National Park, where he developed a passion for wilderness and wildlife. He has 15 years of professional experience in protected area management, having worked in Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Chad, Mozambique, and the Central African Republic, among others.

 He has led successful elephant conservation projects and has experience in field operations supervision and wildlife law enforcement management. Darren has over the years developed specialist skills in the field of aerial wildlife surveys and currently consults in this field. His areas of expertise include GIS and remote sensing, aviation management, real time monitoring and control room systems.

A qualified pilot with over 4,400 hours of flying experience, Darren holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography from the University of Pretoria and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Cape Town.
